Question raised by Kenneth Villalon:
Can anyone answer this question "Who was the first person to start a Cypher?"
Drew Looner (Sorry I'm using your real name)
- Cipher/Cypher is a new term. We dance in circles before the MCs and other Hip Hop heads call the circle "Ciphers". It was influenced by the Nation of Islam. It is the numerical equivalent to "0" (zero).
Rob Nasty then elaborates:
- The term "cipher" came from the 5%ers - The Nation of Gods and Earths founded by Clarence 13X after leaving the Nation of Islam's Temple Number 7 in Harlem, NYC.
- "In Supreme Mathematics "Cyper" means "0" which all numbers are cyphered to reach "0" or in completion of a circle. Example: you must go thru the numerics of 1-9 to get a complete cipher of 10 or 1-cipher." - Rob Nasty
- "In the 90s because so many rappers from NYC were based on teachings from "The Nation", it only made sense that they would "Freestyle Rap" in a cipher." - Rob Nasty
- Rob adds "In Wu-Tangs exert from Return to 36 Chambers:
http://youtu.be/UU14K37fyTY at 0:40 Ghostface starts talkin about "Culture Cipher"... He's referring to his Glock 40"
Mr Wigglez:
- "BBOYS and BGIRLS were already Breaking in Circles. But we never called it a CIPHER in the 70's." - Mr Wigglez
- "he word Cipher was popularized by the 5%ers in the early 80's. Cipher in 5% language meant people of 360 degrees of knowledge. that's a Cipher (a full circle, full degree of Understanding). So if a cat called you a NON CIPHER, there were saying your only 180 degrees with No Understanding. That's the 85% def dumb and blind. 10 percent knows the truth but won't speak it." - Mr Wigglez

In the pic Robco has his arms crossed. "This was a common stance for 5%ers and HARDROCKS (thugs and stickup kids) Thats most BBOYS crossed there arms, cause allot of BBOYS were also Stick Up Kids" - Mr Wigglez.
- "Kippy Dee (RIP) was also a 5%er his name became "Rashawn". If you called him Kippy Dee in front of a 5%er you could catch a beat down. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wrqYUffP78" - Mr Wigglez
